The Oppo Find N3 was launched Thursday as the latest book-style foldable handset from the Chinese smartphone maker. The new foldable smartphone arrives as the successor to last year’s Oppo Find N2 and runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It also features 48-megapixel Hasselblad-branded rear cameras and a tri-state alert slider.
As with the previous Find N, a new Flexion hinge has been introduced on the N3, allowing the handset to flip from horizontal to vertical view and vice versa, depending on the orientation. In addition, a new multitasking feature called Boundless View has been added to the ColorOS 13.2 software on top of Android 13. It lets users open up to three apps simultaneously and seamlessly switch between them in a split-screen setup. The company claims that 95% of mainstream apps are compatible with the feature and will let users resize active windows to suit their needs.
Another big differentiator for the N3 is its dedicated privacy and security features. A new hardware security chip has been integrated into the handset that will provide hardware-level protection for data and keep it secure in case of a breach. Users can access an isolated private space by pressing a button that will allow them to transfer files, install apps, and do other tasks in a secure environment.
The N3 is powered by the current top-of-the-line flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and it comes with a generous 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. A 4,805mAh battery backed by 67W SuperVOOC fast charging will ensure the device can be charged up to 100% in 42 minutes. A separate independent security chip has also been included to protect user data in case of a security breach.
Oppo has released a teaser video on YouTube that briefly looks at the N3’s exterior and interior. The handset is shown to fold open, revealing its large 7.82-inch 2K OLED inner display that has a dynamic refresh rate from 1Hz to 120 Hz and a 1,0758:1 screen ratio. A 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED external display on the handset utilizes LTPO technology and boasts up to 2,800 nits peak brightness.
Interestingly, the Find N3 was unveiled on the same day that OnePlus is set to unveil its foldable smartphone called the OnePlus Open. Both companies co-developed these smartphones, and it remains to be seen if they will differ significantly in terms of design and specifications.
A Weibo leak spotted by PlayfulDroid has already suggested that the OnePlus Open will have a different camera array and be slightly thicker than the N3. The same report adds that both phones will support wireless charging, but whether the Find N3 will either needs to be clarified. This will be a significant differentiator for the two phones as they compete in broadly similar markets.
