OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone is confirmed to go official on October 19. Ahead of its formal debut, Indian pricing and sale date of the handset have leaked online. A reliable Chinese tipster also provided more hints about the rear camera and display specifications of the OnePlus Open.
The latest rumor indicates that the foldable device will get a triple rear camera setup comprising a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 64-megapixel periscope sensor. The third camera lens will reportedly be used for optical zooming. Besides, the OnePlus Open will have dual 32-megapixel front cameras for selfies and video calls.
Ahead of the launch, OnePlus has released a teaser video that showcases the design of its upcoming foldable smartphone. It shows the phone’s folding motion and how it morphs into a tablet. Moreover, it features an alert slider and a power button with a fingerprint sensor on the left side of the device. The new smartphone will feature a faux leather finish similar to the Oppo Find N2.
Regarding specs, the OnePlus Open will likely come with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor paired with 16GB of RAM. It could offer 256GB of internal storage. Moreover, it is speculated to support dual-SIMs and run on Android 13 with the company’s OxygenOS skin.
As for the display, OnePlus Open is likely to carry a 7.8-inch inner 2K AMOLED screen and a 6.31-inch cover AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is also tipped to pack a 3,300mAh battery, including an earpiece, USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, speaker grill, and alert slider.
Interestingly, the OnePlus Open is expected to become the first smartphone with an internal foldable OLED display that can be used as both a tablet and a phone. It can be folded up to a 45-degree angle for viewing multimedia content and browsing websites. The OnePlus Open will also be the first smartphone with a 3x optical zoom periscope camera on its rear.
Max Jambor says the OnePlus Open will be pretty sturdy for a foldable smartphone. It has reportedly been tested for up to 400,000 folds, double the number that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 could withstand.
