Honor 90 to Launch in India in September With 200MP Camera

Honor is soon going to be back in the business. The Chinese smartphone brand is coming back to the Indian market with a brand new phone. The phone has already been launched in some other countries. Honor is likely to launch a 200-megapixel camera smartphone in India. This is a massive milestone for the company as it will be the first-ever camera-focused smartphone from Honor.

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor ended its smartphone business in the country in 2020, but it has been working to return to the market in a bigger capacity now. Its last smartphone release was the Honor 9A, a budget-friendly device that saw a global launch in July 2022.

The company has been doing well in several other markets, such as Europe and the Middle East, where it has been growing its market share despite competition from local players such as Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo. In India, it has been losing market share as the top five brands have solidified their position, with Apple and Samsung doubling down on local production.

In the upcoming months, the company will be launching a phone in the Indian market, and it’s believed that Sheth is going to lead the team that will be handling the brand in the country. The former CEO of Realme India has been a big part of the growth and success of the company since its early days. He has built the company into a household name in the budget and mid-range smartphone space.

Sheth will be joining the senior leadership of Honor in India, and he could soon become its CEO in the country. He is also a key leader of Realme’s international business and will be able to bring his vast experience to the role. The report also mentions that other director-level executives from Realme’s online and mainline (offline) verticals plan to leave the company in a significant departure.

Honor might initially introduce its X and Number series of phones in the country when it makes a comeback. The X series is a youth-focused lineup, while the number series competes with smartphones like the Redmi Note and Realme number series. However, it might take longer to enter the premium market in India with its Magic lineup as it needs to gain a more substantial offline presence.

A tipster recently shared an image on Twitter that revealed the details of a trademark application filed by Honor. It mentions ‘Honor for Knights’ and Sheth’s name, further cementing the rumors that he will spearhead the Honor brand’s return to the Indian smartphone market. PSAV Global, a Noida-based distributor of Honor products, including laptops and intelligent wearables, did the filing. Honor has also applied to trademark the Honor C1, a self-developed chip that enhances 5G signal reception on its phones. These are all positive signs that the brand is gearing up to return to the country.
